Each year around this time, schools in our area open enrollment for kindergarten students. The whole ordeal can be a bit daunting, especially if this is your first child to come of school age. Not to worry, we’ve got the information and resources you need to get your kiddo(s) kindergarten ready! Below we have included a helpful checklist of things to know and consider before enrolling your child, as well as a fairly standard checklist of documents you will most likely need to do so. We have also compiled dates and information per school or school district to help you navigate the process.
Standard Checklist:
The below is a summary of the things you will most likely need to gather for enrollment. For the 2023-2024 school year, your child must be 5 years old by September 1, 2023. Of course, each school may have their own specifications and additional requirements, but this is a good starting place!
-Copy of your child’s original birth certificate (sometimes the original AND a copy)
-Immunization records
-Documentation of a medical physical and dental records
-For public schools: Two proofs of residency (driver’s license, copy of current paycheck, utility bill, lease, W-2 statement, etc.)
-Custody agreement (if applicable)

Each child must complete a DIAL screening (to ensure kindergarten readiness) and open houses happen in April or May. Each school will have open houses listed on their website as dates approach.
